Back in Dahab...

So here I was again, training for the same competition that a year ago was my first fd experience.

The goats and camels saluted me and the beautiful smell of "Dahab flowers"-Le garbage overcome my senses ahhh is good to be back home! Now staying in a new house, we had more space for shisha meetings, yoga and movies sessions- oh yeah and our catering of flies. The bastards were multipling by he second and taking over the house while we slept. Not even the electric raquet brough from Brazil was enough as the bitches were somehow sonarized and would always scape!

Anyhow, It took some days to get use to the old routine. Waking up early somehow didn't work so i managed to push everyone to start picking up time at 9:30 wich got as to Blue Hole 10ish -Egyptian Time of course!

The city was quite empty, and the water freaking cold!-(wasn't Egypt supposed to be hot?!!) I soon realized why everyone was still wearing a 5mm! Fuck spartans, time for chickening...I ended up with a starnge mix of a long 5mm and 3mm jaquet wich left me with some arms flexibility while not freezing my buttie.

I was worried that the time I took off due to my foot operation would screw my diving, but the strengh training I got back in Rio de Janeiro (thanks guys fom ABodytech!)prove to have worked and i didnt feel lactic at all wich was great both phisically and mentally. On the other hand the op was too recent and after a couple of minutes with the fin the pain was too much to endure.

So i took it easy and decided i didnt want to screw the foot as a new comp will be on the following month and instead I offer to help with the organization of the competition.

That's where all the problems started.

RBS TV shoot for Estudio Santa Catarina, interview with Larissa Schimidt

This week we went with RBS , Globo TV of South Brazil, to shoot for Estudio Santa Catarina Program.

We took of from Ponta das Canas Beach, on the north of the island together with Sea Divers crew straight to Arvoredo Island. This is the biggest of many smaller islands that surround Florianopolis. Its an envorimental protective area,and gets its name-Arvore= trees from beign tottaly covered ith Atlantic forest.

The equipe was composed by Larissa Schimidt the reporter, Edson camera and support safety diver Raquel Milliori.

The day was looking perfect! sunny sky and soft breese making the journey very enjoyable.

Unfortunately n the water conditions werent't the same. A mild to strong current was picking up and breathing up at surface wasnt the easiest task. Nevertheless visibility was nice and i think we manage to get some nice shots!

We spoke a bit about the transition from modeling to freediver and i told a litle bit of my adventures in Egypt:)

Im really looking forward to seeing the program. It's supposed to be showing on the first Sunday of 2010 after Fantastico program..

It was a really great day!Freediving in my home island :) ahh

So here i say goodbye for a bit...

Today i embark in a new diving Adventure.

I am going to the Pacific Ocean, dive in the Revillagigedos Archipelago, also knowned as Socorro About 250 miles (ouch!) south of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Fingers Crossed there will be lots of sharks and mantas and lots of good stories to tell!

Day 2 interview with Andre Tasinari. Jurere Beach, Florianopolis Island.

And so we went to get more shots , this time in Jurere Beach, One of the most prestigious beaches in Florianopolis Island. The day was beautiful, but the wind wasnt helping much...Still i felt much more at home to be close to the sea:)I hope the audio will be ok-fingers crossed! Andre was wicked and patient as always. Valeu!:)

Interview Part 1 with Andre Tassinari, PRO HD

So today I went to film an interview at Morro da Cruz (Cross Mountain) with Andre Tassinari, responsible for Pro HD Productions. The place has one of the most privileged  views of the beautiful city of Florianopolis an Island on South Brazil. It is the highest point of the Island and on it stands one of the most famous TV channels, RBS Tv. We talked about the records and i explained better about the transaction from modeling to becoming an athlete, we talked more about the sport and my relationship with apnea. By promoting  freediving we hope to attract more athletes, more sponsors and spread more information , demystifying apnea as a sport wich is approachable for anyone who is willing to try and devote a bit of training.

But that wasn't all for the day! Went to the gym and who did I came across? Another Brazilian athlete Karol Meyer! Its always good to meet some other athletes and exchange information. :D We talked a lot and I´m sure today something was learnt...:)

The first "Real Thing"

It was in October 2007, while I was living in England working as a professional model that a  fashion photographer friend of mine, who later turns to become a nature photographer too, Brian Daly, invites me to take an apnea course.
I just had a little problem .... course ... where exactly are we going freediving?
"In Somerset" he told me, is funny how most Europeans feel no cold, and they make it sound so normal .... until it got me! "But it will be at the end of October! After the beginning of winter ... aiaiai!
But he ended up convincing me .. and we went on. I followed with my old 5mm scuba suits , with a couple of holes here and there....
For those who know me I am very tall and thin. (then, the other profession!)
So, to choose a wetsuit it is not easy. Super Large in height and Small in measurements ... wich one should I choose!
One can imagine that comfort is not the first option!
Anyway, when the cold is great n o matter what suit you are wearing it will be useless. I was the only woman on the course and the instructor Emma Farrell was early to say, "you enter the water last!"
I thought Ihh I do not want any special treatment for being a woman, Let's all go!l! It was only to enter the water that some of my feminist side was literally down the drain. That IS cold! The water was so dark that we said that "after 10 meters you have to take a knife and fork to cut trough the water"

After many bottles of hot water that we wahsed down inside the neck  of our wetsuits, two days after the course AIDA 2Stars finished and I was completely blown away, or rather tottaly addicted!

So it begins my passion for freediving.
